| pt |
dc.description.abstract | This thesis is situated in the wake of studies that have questioned how mediatization can contribute to the emergence of communicative spaces in which groups of women can negotiate the meanings of their religious identities in a secular and global culture. Conceptualizing mediatization as a contextualized articulation between social practices and the media environment, the research takes the changes in the Brazilian religious field related to this phenomenon as a core to ground the communicative practices of women in positions of authority and visibility in the mediatized ecosystem of the Godllywood Project Movement, which is part of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG). From an epistemological and methodological perspective of Feminist Studies, the research frames such transformations within a post-feminist temporality marked by the phenomena of neoliberalization and hypervisibility of feminisms, as well as the amplification of antifeminism in Brazilian discourse. Central to this proposal is the general hypothesis that the Godllywood ecosystem represents an ambivalent and strategic "middle region" that has the potential to transgress and reinforce the status quo — i.e., a space with political meaning and function, characterized by the union of secular-religious and public-private dichotomies, in which a group of women act as mediamessages. Aiming to analyze these ambivalences, the method of discourse analysis as used by Rosalind Gill is adopted with the purpose of identifying the themes and linguistic strategies mobilized in the Godllywood media ecosystem in the light of the literature on women in Pentecostalism, the ecclesiastical organization and the IURD worldview, as well as the disputes over the sense of femininity in Brazil in the last decade. Qualitatively, this analysis identifies three interpretive repertoires related to the dynamics of advising and the post-feminist discursive tendencies that characterize it, by examining a corpus composed of four contexts within the Godllywood ecosystem. The repertoires highlight the tensions that permeate the performance of the women’s groups around notions of female power, female subjectivity, and femininity from the discursive construction of a post-feminist spiritual grammar. This «grammar» allows the ecosystem to work as a space in which women deviate from and reinforce traditional gender roles by playing a political and formative role before their female audiences and thus disseminating the ideology of the UCKG in public discourse. These findings highlight the importance of Godllywood in times of neoconservatism and shed light for future research on its possible contributions to the study of antifeminism in Brazil, as well as for the development of new research within the framework of studies on mediatization, gender, and religion in this context. | pt |
