Title: | Condições para conflito no mundo pós-soviético: comparando a Rússia na Europa de Leste e na Ásia Central | Other Titles: | Conditions for Conflict in the Post-Soviet World: Comparing Russia in Eastern Europe and Central Asia | Authors: | Fazendeiro, Bernardo Teles | Keywords: | Rússia; Europa de Leste; Ásia Central; Guerra; Conflito; Paz; Russia; Eastern Europe; Central Asia; War; Conflict; Peace | Issue Date: | Aug-2022 | Publisher: | Instituto da Defesa Nacional | Serial title, monograph or event: | Nação e Defesa | Issue: | 162 | Place of publication or event: | Lisboa | Abstract: | O chamado mundo pós-soviético compreende a Europa de Leste, o Cáucaso e a Ásia Central tendo a Rússia procurado, de maneira cada vez mais visível, assumir um papel assertivo em toda esta vasta região geográfica. The so-called post-Soviet world includes Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, and Russia has sought, in an increasingly visible way, to assume an assertive role in this vast geographical region. However, only in Central Asia has this positioning not, to date, translated into any direct military intervention. This article takes a comparative perspective to analyse the lack of manifestations of Russian interventionism in the region, in comparison with the outbreak of wars in the Caucasus and Eastern Europe. This analysis will focus on the examination of specific regional political, economic, and geographical features in the Caucasus and Eastern Europe region that could foster aggressive Russian action in that part of the post-Soviet world. |
