It is known that leading questions can have an impact on subjects’ reports and responses, being possible that, in the context of interrogation, these questions may lead to false confessions or accusations. This study, to the best of our knowledge, is the first to explore the impact of different types of leading questions in the induction of interrogative suggestibility assessed by the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale (GSS). The version 1 of this scale was applied to 50 high school students, aged between 15 and 19 years, in order to ascertain which of the three types of suggestive questions of this scale (“affirmative”,“leading” and “false alternative”) induce greater yield and agreement to suggestion. Furthermore, other assessment instruments (Toulouse-Piéron Cancellation Test, Trail Making Test A and B, The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Inventário Clínico de Autoconceito and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire) were administered to know the relation between interrogative suggestibility and the following variables: memory, attention, anxiety, self-concept, neuroticism and social desirability. There was a significant effect of all types of GSS-1 questions on the acceptance of suggestions included therein, both in the first (Yield 1) and second (Yield 2) inquiry, mainly and as expected, of the “false alternative” questions. This type of questions also showed significant differences in terms of Total Suggestibility, but not in terms of change in response, from the first inquiry to the second (Shift). With negative feedback, there was an increase in the acceptance of suggestions in all three types of leading questions of GSS-1. Only the correlations obtained between the GSS-1 immediate recall and Yield 1 and Yield 2 measures, between the GSS-1 delayed recall and Yield 1, Yield 2 and Total Suggestibility measures and between neuroticism and Yield 1 showed statistical relevance. It is of highest importance to continue to explore the impact of different types of leading questions in inducing interrogative suggestibility, with diverse samples, and to seek the matching of the experimental conditions to real life context, in order to know more deeply its influence in real judicial cases.
