Abstract: Practically ignored in the framework of Portuguese art historiography, this article aims to reinforce the flow of information available about the sculptors Valentim Gomes da Fonseca and Valentim dos Santos Carvalho. Offering a more grounded knowledge of his biography, professional career and artistic profile, it is intended, based on the data obtained, to identify plastic and formal characteristics, assessing from them new authorship possibilities. Representatives of two generations with a broad prominence in the framework of Baroque sculptural production, we seek to trigger an analysis and framing of their performance in the artistic panorama of that period.
