A MULHER E A ARTE: FIGURAÇÕES DA MARGINALIDADE FEMININA EM ADOECER DE HÉLIA CORREIA

Abstract

A marginalização da mulher surge representada na obra de Hélia Correia com grande sensibilidade, sem, no entanto, as suas fi cções deixarem de manifestar a dureza das situações em que a mulher é empurrada para um viver à margem ou nas margens daquilo que é aceite socialmente por ser confortável ou fácil. A este propósito, a protagonista da obra Adoecer representa um conjunto de situações diferenciadas, nas quais a mulher luta pelo reconhecimento do seu valor no mundo da arte e dos artistas, no tempo dos pintores Pré-Rafaelistas. Este trabalho terá como objetivo estudar essa variedade de situações da in(ex)clusão da mulher no mundo artístico representado no romance, investigar o modo como as personagens são representtivas de diversos períodos históricos e ainda analisar a simbologia das diversas formas de resistência ou desistência a essa marginalização. Atentar-se-á ainda no modo como as personagens são construídas por várias camadas que remetem para a dualidade entre corpo e espírito e para a tensão entre singularidade e complexidade, deixando entrever, no hibridismodas suas vozes, diversos posicionamentos ideológicos.

In Hélia Correia’s fi ction the marginalisation of women is treated with great sensibility notwithstanding the representation of the harshness of situations that push women to live on the edge, or at the edge, of social requisites, either because it is more comfortable or easier. In this regard, the protagonist in her novel Adoecer depicts a set of diverse situations in which women fi ght for the acceptance of their artistic value in the world of art and artists, specifi cally in the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood period. The purpose of this study is to analyse the variety of circumstances in which women are in(ex)cluded from the artistic world as represented in the novel, to investigate how characters are used to represent different historical periods, and to analyse the symbolism associated with the different forms of resistance to this marginalisation. I will also focus on the way that characters are created with different layers that tend toward a body-mind duality, along with the tensions between the singularity and the complexity present and that through a hybridity of voices reveal different ideological positionings.
