Papel do farmacêutico na dor oncológica

Abstract

A maioria dos doentes oncológicos experiencia dor no decurso a sua doença. O alívio da dor é um direito do doente, pelo que os profissionais de saúde devem focar-se numa avaliação correta desta e na disponibilização de um tratamento eficaz e seguro, de forma a melhorar a qualidade de vida do doente. Os farmacêuticos têm um papel importante no tratamento da dor oncológica quer em ambiente hospitalar, quer nas farmácias comunitárias. Através do conhecimento dos mecanismos fisiopatológicos envolvidos no processo da dor, devem trabalhar em conjunto com outros profissionais de saúde na escolha da terapêutica mais indicada para cada doente e participar ativamente no seu acompanhamento farmacoterapêutico ao longo de todo o tratamento. Como especialista do medicamento e agente de saúde pública, o farmacêutico deve ter uma visão voltada para o exterior, não se devendo restringir à realidade do local ou país em que se encontra, no que diz respeito a novas opções de diagnóstico e terapêutica. A Oncologia e o tratamento da dor são áreas em constante evolução, pelo que devemos apostar no desenvolvimento e alargamento das nossas competências de forma a prestar cuidados farmacêuticos com cada vez mais qualidade, nomeadamente a doentes oncológicos.

The majority of oncological patients experience pain during the course of their illness. Pain relief is a patient’s right, therefore health professionals should focus on the correct evaluation of pain and on the provision of an effective and safe treatment, in order to improve patients quality of life. Pharmacists have an important role in the treatment of oncological pain, both in hospitals and pharmacies. Through the knowledge of physiopathological mechanisms involved in the pain process, they must work together with other health professionals to decide the most adequate therapeutic approach for each patient and actively participate in the pharmacotherapeutic follow-up during the treatment. As a drug specialist and public health agent, pharmacists shall have a global vision, and avoid restraining themselves to the local reality or country, regarding new diagnosis and therapeutic options. Fields such as oncology and pain treatment are in constant evolution, and that is why we should invest in the development and expansion of our skills in order to improve the quality of pharmaceutical care we provide, especifically to oncological patients.
