A Sylloge Inscriptionum Romanarum in Catalaunia, de Joseph Finestres i Monsalvo

Abstract

Procura dar-se uma ideia dos objectivos prosseguidos por Finestres, ao elaborar o 1º corpus das inscrições romanas da Catalunha, integrando a sua obra no ambiente historiográfico da época. Escolheram-se quatro epígrafes para documentar aspectos específicos que poderão ajudar a compreender melhor o alcance desta obra pioneira, como se salientará no resumo final.

A synthesis is presented about the Joseph Finestres’ objectives when he planned to write his Roman inscriptions’ corpus of Catalonia. Also, a short panorama of the XVII hundred’s mentality concerning the Roman world is done. Four inscriptions are selected to give us an idea about specifics aspects of the epigraphic research.
