As relações pais-filhos e o auto-conceito em sujeitos com deficiência mental ligeira

Abstract

O objectivo deste estudo é avaliar e compreender o auto-conceito e as relações pais/filhos em sujeitos com deficiência mental ligeira, assim como a possível associação entre estas variáveis. Para analisar estes aspectos, recorreu-se a uma amostra de 135 sujeitos de várias instituições de solidariedade social. Os dados foram recolhidos através da adaptação portuguesa do Questionário sobre as relações pais/filhos de Bastin e Delrez (1976) realizada por Vaz Serra (1987), do Inventário Clínico de Auto-conceito construído por Vaz Serra em 1985 e de um Questionário Sócio – Demográfico. Os resultados obtidos parecem ter sido bastante influenciados pela deficiência mental ligeira. Deste modo, verificou-se a existência de certas correlações inversas significativas, de baixa e moderada magnitude, entre alguns factores na associação entre as relações pais – filhos e o auto-conceito, habitualmente inesperadas em sujeitos normais. Para além disto, constatou-se também que a idade e o sexo não influenciam as relações pais/filhos e o auto-conceito. Estes resultados permitem abrir caminho ao nível da compreensão desta prolemática e consequente intervenção, tanto junto dos sujeitos com deficiência mental ligeira como das suas famílias.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate and understand the self-concept and the relationship between parents / children in subjects with mental deficiency and also the association between these variables. To examine these aspects, we used a sample of 135 subjects of various charities. Data was collected by the portuguese adaptation of the Questionário sobre as relações pais/filhos de Bastin e Delrez (1976) done by Vaz Serra in 1985, from Inventário Clínico de Auto-conceito built by Vaz Serra and a Socio-demographic questionary. The results have been probably influenced by mental deficiency. Thus, it was found that there were a few significant inverse correlations, presenting low and moderate magnitude, between some factors on the association between the parents / children relations and self-concept. These associations are often unexpected in normal subjects. In addition, it was also found that age and sex did not influence the relationship between parents / children and self-concept. These results open the way to allow us to understand this problem and consequent intervention with both subjects with mental deficiency and their families.
