Análise de Conteúdo das Histórias de Vida de Jovens Ex-acolhidos: Um Estudo Exploratório

Abstract

O acolhimento residencial é uma das últimas medidas a tomar na proteção de crianças e jovens. No entanto, para muitos menores, acaba por ser uma solução a longo prazo. Depois de viverem num ambiente tóxico e provavelmente traumatizante, a instituição não é o meio mais eficaz na luta por um desenvolvimento saudável. Jovens acolhidos e ex-acolhidos continuam a ser uma população vulnerável, com níveis altos de fragilidades e comportamentos de risco. Este estudo pretende analisar as histórias e transições de jovens ex-acolhidos através de uma análise de conteúdo e retirar temas que indiquem problemáticas a ser focadas futuramente em investigação e intervenção.A presente dissertação pretende abrir caminho a uma exploração mais compreensiva do jovem institucionalizado e das suas vivências. Trata-se de uma população de risco, referenciada e discriminada por vários fatores ecologicamente determinantes para a vida dos mesmos. É importante fazer a ligação entre as experiências traumáticas dos sujeitos em acolhimento e o seu desenvolvimento. Devemos considerar as suas ruturas relacionais, os seus mecanismos e competências de adaptação e as suas necessidades, que vão muito para além de garantir os recursos básicos de vida. Vítimas de maus tratos, de ambientes subnutridos e de comportamentos desviantes tendem a criar padrões de comportamento não adaptativos à vida em sociedade e ao seu próprio bem-estar. Por outro lado, a vida em acolhimento deveria responder a essas necessidades, formando os jovens num ambiente enriquecedor que lhes desse as mesmas oportunidades que qualquer ambiente familiar saudável fornece. Os dados, no entanto, mostram que essa realidade está longe de ser verídica.

Foster care living is one of the last measures to be taken in the protection of children and youth. However, for many youngsters, it ends up being a long-term resolution. After living in a toxic environment and, probably, a traumatizing one, the institution is not the most effective way in the fight for a healthy development. Foster and former foster care youth are still a vulnerable population, with high levels of fragility and risk behavior. This study intends to analyze the stories and transitions of former foster care youth through content analysis and to bring up themes which indicate problematics to be focused on in the future in research and intervention.The present dissertation intends to open the path towards a more comprehensive exploration of the foster care youth and their experiences. It is a population of risk, referenced and discriminated for various factors ecologically determinant. It is important to make the connections between the traumatic experiences of the subjects in foster care and their development. We must consider their relational ruptures, their mechanisms and competencies of adaptation and their needs, which go further than the basic life resources. Victims of maltreatment, of undernourished environments and of deviant behaviors tend to create behavior patterns non adaptative to society and their own well-being. On the other hand, foster care living should respond to those needs, forming the youth in a rich environment that would give them the same opportunities that any healthy familiar environment gives. The data, however, demonstrates that that reality is far from being truthful.
