Metamorfose do Espaço: Tempo e Lugar da Arquitectura em Atelier

Abstract

A presente dissertação tem por objectivos conhecer e reflectir sobre edifícios pré-existentes que se metamorfosearam em ateliers de arquitectura e perceber a relação do arquitecto com o seu espaço de trabalho. Procura-se compreender o legado de memórias e vivências que prevalecem com a metamorfose de edifícios-atelier no tempo e como esta metamorfose influencia o trabalho teórico ou prático do arquitecto-habitante.Os casos de estudo são dois edifícios-ateliers de arquitectura espanhóis, transformados no e com o tempo. São o atelier de Juan Domingo Santos, em Granada e o atelier de Mansilla+Tuñón Arquitectos, em Madrid. Os ateliers em estudo sofreram transformações de programas industriais, com arcos temporais, escalas e funções distintas, ocupando no primeiro caso a Torre Alcoholera da Fábrica Açucareira de San Isidro e no segundo a nave industrial da Carpintaria La Navarra.Analisa-se a forma como as mudanças programáticas são interpretadas no espaço da contemporaneidade dos arquitectos, reflecte-se sobre a especificidade das abordagens à metamorfose dos espaços e sobre a forma como os arquitectos os vivem e como percepcionam e experimentam o legado de vivências e memórias do edifício pré-existente.Em síntese, o trabalho desenvolvido encontra, partindo de edifícios industriais que se transformaram em ateliers de arquitectura, convergências e divergências na forma como o espaço e o programa inicial permanecem na memória do edifício, respondendo à questão espaço-tempo e percebendo como o arquitecto, enquanto fruidor do espaço, o habita.

The present dissertation has as main objective to acknowledge and reflect on how pre-existent buildings have metamorphosed into architecture ateliers and understand the existing relationship between architect and its work space. It also seeks to understand the memory legacy and prevailing experiences after the metamorphosis of the ateliers and how it influences the theoretical and practical work developed by the architect.The case studies are two Spanish architecture ateliers, both transformed in and within time. They are Juan Domingo Santos’ atelier, in Granada, and Mansilla+Tuñon Arquitectos, in Madrid. The referred ateliers have suffered transformations from industrial programs, with temporal arches and distinct scales and functions, with the first one having occupied Alcoholera Tower of the San Isidro Sugar Plant and, the second, the industrial space of La Navarra Wood Shop.It analyses the way programmatic changes are interpreted, in the space of the architects’ reality and reflects on the specificity of how the spaces’ metamorphosis was approached, as well as how architects experiment the memory legacy left behind by the pre-existent building.In sum, the present workpiece finds, having industrial buildings transformed into architecture ateliers as a starting point, the convergences and divergences in the way spaces, and its initial function, remain in the memory of the building, answering the space-time question and understanding how the architect, as the user of such space, inhabits it.
