Abstract: Ensuring equitable access to knowledge is fundamental to scientific progress, consolidation of democracy and well-being. Its feasibility is the existence of means that allow individuals to have access to information and knowledge without constraints of any nature. The objective is to analyze the extent to which the scientific abstract, as a mediating resource between the user and the original document, contributes to equitable access to information. It was based on a qualitative paradigm whose method was the revision of systematic literature, from which the scientific abstract and the concept of equity were contextualized, defined and characterized, and the concept of equity was articulated with the concept of access to information. It was also reflected on the possibility of the scientific abstract facilitating equitable access to information. The results infer that the abstract, through its intrinsic properties, allows equitable access to information and knowledge, insofar as it presents information condensed and organized in a macrostructure, in general, the terminology and the language is intelligible to whom needs her, potentiates the saving of economic resources and time, competing for the updating of the user and promotes the active participation of society in the development, dissemination, consumption and scientific production.
