Consciência metalinguística em crianças portuguesas com 9 anos de idade: estudo exploratório com o THAM-2

Abstract

A consciência metalinguística é definida pela maioria dos autores como a capacidade de refletir e analisar de forma consciente e intencional os componentes estruturais da linguagem. A investigação realizada nas últimas quatro décadas evidencia uma relação entre a consciência metalinguística e a aprendizagem da leitura e da escrita, quer na língua materna quer na língua estrangeira, o que reveste a temática de importância para o contexto pedagógico e educacional. O presente trabalho tem como principal objetivo contribuir para a adaptação portuguesa do THAM-2 (Figueira & Pinto, n.d.), um instrumento de avaliação das capacidades metalinguísticas, destinado a crianças com idades entre os 9 e os 14 anos. O estudo realizado, de carácter exploratório, tem por base uma amostra de 27 sujeitos portugueses, com 9 anos de idade, sendo que os resultados obtidos permitem analisar a adequação e dificuldade dos itens, procurando-se também observar as limitações inerentes ao teste e ao seu método de aplicação.

Metalinguistic awareness is defined by the majority of authors as the capacity to reflect upon and to analyze the structural components of language, in a conscious and intentional way. Investigation in the last four decades shows a relation between metalinguistic awareness and acquisition of reading and writing, equally on first and second languages, which makes this subject important for education and pedagogy. The main objective of the present work is to contribute to the Portuguese adaptation of THAM-2 (Figueira & Pinto, n.d.), which is an instrument that evaluates metalinguistic abilities, in children between 9 and 14 years old. This study, of an exploratory nature, was conducted on a sample of 27 Portuguese subjects, with 9 years old, and the results obtained allow for conclusions about the adequacy and difficulty of the items, while the analysis also extends to the limitations of the test and its application method.
