La recherche biographique aujourd’hui: de la science de l’incertitude au savoir ancré

Abstract

Depuis une dizaine d’années, la recherche biographique produite dans l’espace francophone s’ouvre à une vision transfrontière des objets et processus biographiques. Cet article analyse la contribution fondamentale de Christine Delory-Momberger à ce travail refondateur et revisite les positions du sociologue italien Franco Ferraroti qui, dès les années 1980, souligne le caractère « post-disciplinaire » de la recherche sur les expériences vécues des individus. La diversité des mondes humains rend le savoir produit par la recherche biographique incertain du point de vue positiviste, mais ancré dans le réel du point de vue anthropologique. De ce fait, nous trouvons dans le paradigme de « l’écologie des savoirs » proposée par Boaventura de Sousa Santos les outils épistémologiques appropriés pour comprendre et développer la recherche biographique aujourd’hui. Comment reconnaître la pertinence et élaborer la formalisation scientifique d’un savoir ancré dans l’expérience subjective, telle est notre question.

For the last ten years, French speaking life history and biography research opens itself to a transdisciplinary conception of biographical objects and processes. This paper analyses the fundamental contribution of Christine Delory-Momberger to such a field of research. It revisits Italian sociologist Franco Ferraroti’s positions about the « postdisciplinary » nature of biography research. From a positivistic point of view, human diversity makes research on individual experiences of the social world uncertain. However, from an anthropological point of view, it appears more faithful to the roots of human reality. For these reasons, we find in Boaventura de Sousa Santos’ paradigm of « the ecology of knowledges » the appropriate epistemological tools to understand and develop today biography research. How to acknowledge the relevance of this kind of knowledge rooted in subjective experience and how to build its scientific formalization appear therefore as our main concern.
