The human being has an identity which is innate – male or female – so one can also assign to the space an inherent sexuality and a force of a gender which can be considered in its fruition. The purpose of this thesis is to study gender as a conditioning factor of the design in architecture, both at the time of its creation and on the actual experience of space, while shaping the domestic relationships or shaped by them. We seek to understand the representativeness of the construction of the gender-space relationship amongst the architectural experiments since the modern period, which reflect ways of living in the space and the paradigms about the man-woman interaction. The materialization of the reflection takes place in the window as an active element in the domestic dynamics and in the way how man and woman are placed in the space. Departing from the relationship window-gender, we explore Villa Mairea (1938) by Alvar Aalto, the Farnsworth House (1946) by Mies van der Rohe and the Bergren House (1985) by Michael Rotondi and Thom Mayne, in order to understand the window in its ability to be an instrument of a gendered power, an intermediary between the woman and the exterior world, and a place of experiences and narratives led by gender differentiation.
