Formação profissional e turismo: caracterização da oferta de uma escola profissional e perceção dos empregadores

Abstract

Este trabalho é o resultado de uma investigação desenvolvida pela autora para a obtenção do grau de Mestre em Ciências Educacionais, na Universidade de Coimbra. Com este projeto, pretendeu-se avaliar o papel da formação profissional inicial no desempenho das profissões na área da hotelaria e restauração. Através de uma metodologia qualitativa, e baseada na pesquisa bibliográfica, na análise documental e em entrevistas semiestruturadas, procurou-se analisar a relação entre a educação e o mundo do trabalho, numa área e território específicos, e verificar se as competências evidenciadas pelos alunos estagiários após um curso profissional Nível IV correspondiam às necessidades sentidas pelas empresas desse território. O estudo divide-se em três capítulos: o primeiro, onde é exposta uma revisão da literatura sobre o ensino e a formação profissionais; o segundo, dedicado ao turismo, à sua importância na economia e à escola, enquanto elemento chave do projeto educativo local; e o último, referente ao estudo empírico, onde se apresenta a metodologia, os procedimentos, o objeto de estudo e os resultados da investigação. Este trabalho de investigação permitiu concluir que, embora haja mudanças a implementar com vista à atualização dos objetivos educacionais e à adaptação ao mundo do trabalho em constante mudança, a formação profissional inicial em foco tem um impacto positivo no desenvolvimento de um turismo e restauração de maior qualidade, indo de encontro às necessidades reais das empresas.

This work is the outcome of a research conducted by the author in order to fulfill the requirements of the Degree in Educational Sciences, in the University of Coimbra. With this project, we intended to assess the role of the initial vocational education in the performance of jobs in the tourism and hospitality area. By using a qualitative approach, and based on the bibliography, documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews, we wanted to study the relation between education and the world of work, in a specific area and territory and to check if the competences showed by the trainees in their vocational training at the end of the vocational course – Level IV answered the needs felt by the enterprises managers of that territory. The study is divided into three chapters: the first, where it is presented a review of the literature about vocational teaching and training; the second, dedicated to tourism, its importance to the economy and to the school as a key-element of the local educational project; the third, about the school in focus and the territory in which it is located; and the last, where it is presented the methodology, the procedures, the object of the study and the results of the investigation. This research investigation allowed to conclude that, although there is always changes to make in order to bring up-to-date educational aims and to cope with the changing world of work, the initial vocational education in focus has a positive impact on de development of a better quality in the tourism and hospitality sector, meeting the real needs of the enterprises.
