Ética e retórica forense: asebeia e hybris na caracterização dos adversários em Demóstenes

Abstract

O intuito da investigação é analisar o uso dos termos asebeia e hybris nos discursos forenses presentes no corpus Demosthenicum. Ambos desempenham um papel importante nos discursos para descrever negativamente o caráter do adversário e atribuir uma culpa maior ao delito cometido. A eficiência dos termos em atrair a simpatia dos juízes é comprovada por meio da recorrência nos discursos de diversas situações, tais como homicídios, agressões, mau uso da cidadania, rivalidades políticas e disputas familiares, que serão abordadas no presente estudo.

The aim of the study is to analyze the use of the terms asebeia and hybris in the forensic discourses that are part of the corpus Demosthenicum. Both concepts play an important role in the discourse to describe negatively the character of the opponent and assign a greater guilt to the offense committed. The efficiency of these terms in attracting the sympathy of the judges is proven by their recurrency in discourses about various situations, such as homicide, assault, misuse of citizenship, political rivalries and family quarrels, which are discussed throughout this study.
