A new scale of interrogative suggestibility similar to the GSS-1: An exploratory research with a sample of Portuguese youth This study aimed to understand if there exist diferences between Interrogative Suggestibility (IS) when information about an event was presented to the subjects verbally or visually. To this end it was created a measurement instrument of IS based on the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale with two versions: a visual version consisting in the presentation of a video without sound and a verbal version with the oral description of the event included in the video. Two samples of participants were compared, one concerning the visual presentation of an event and the other relating to the auditory presentation of the description of the video event, formed by 40 teenagers each, from 15 to 18 years old with with an equal distribution of gender. We also explore in this study the memory for the event and the relationship between the measures of IS and the non-verbal inteligence, selective atention, social desirability and variables of personality such as neuroticism, extraversion and agreeableness. The results obtained revealed that the two samples differ significantly concerning the measures of IS and also memory. The group to wich was applied the verbal version showed higher average results in memory and lower in IS. Regarding the correlations with the other variables in study they were different for each group. The group that responded to the verbal version showed correlations between Social Desirability and the measures of IS except Yield 1, Neuroticism and the measures of IS except Shift and Agreeableness and Yeld 1 and Total Suggestibility. In the group that was administered the visual version only the variable Extraversion showed to be correlated with all the measures of Is except Yeld 2. However all this correlations were low except the observed between Extraversion and Total Suggestibility that was a moderate one. Thus, when the subjects are faced with a visual stimulus their tendency to yeld to IS is bigger and their exact recall of the event is weaker. Since in the forensic context, the most part of the testimonies are based in visually perceived events the results obtained in this study point out the necessity of development an instrument of IS assessment with that use visual information. We also conclude that the variables that influence the IS are different concerning the modality of presentation of the information.
