Biography
Mariana Silva Faria Peixoto. Have a degree in Medicinal Chemistry from the FCTUC, and a MSc in Chemistry, specialization in Advanced and Industrial Chemistry - Development and Strategy, by the same institution. During the MSc degree she worked with Prof. Dr. Marta Pineiro Gomez and learn about sustainability and transforming the traditional organic chemistry methods into green chemistry methods for the synthesis of porphyrin derivatives, such as metalloporphyrins and hydroporphyrins. The work carried out during the MSc dissertation resulted in three articles published in Molecules, Green Chemistry Letters and Reviews and the Journal of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (special issue of Women in Porphyrin Science). In the same year she got involved in the research project SunStorage: Harvesting and storage of solar energy, with a research grant supervised by Prof. Dr. Marta Pineiro Gomez and Prof. Dr. João Pina for the synthesis and characterization of porphyrin derivatives for CO2 reduction and membrane optimization for redox flow batteries. In the beginning of 2021, she started a collaboration with Prof. Dr. João Sérgio Seixas de Melo, Prof. Dr. Adelino Galvão from IST of Lisbon, Prof. Dr. Marta Piñeiro Gomez and with Junior Researcher Ana Clara B. Rodrigues, through the HyLight Project, to develop the synthesis of luminogens with aggregation induced emission (AIEgens) and their photophysical characterization. This project resulted in a recently published communication in Chemistry - A European Journal. Currently, she is a researcher at Coimbra Chemistry Centre in the University of Coimbra to investigate the photoswiching of spiropyrans with UV-Vis and near-IR light, starting with investigations on the solvatochromism and thermochromism of the product in different solvents and temperatures, in the project "Chemistry Triggered by Infrared Vibrational Excitation: Developing a Powerful Tool for Highly-Selective Molecular Structure Manipulation", supervised by Dr. Cláudio Manaia Nunes.
