Biography
Assistant Professor
Member of CEMMPRE - Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes
Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Group
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Faculty of Science and Technology
University of Coimbra, Portugal

M. Augusta Neto received the Mechanical Engineering Degree with the final grade of 16/20 from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) in July of 1995 and in the month of Jun of the year 1998 finished the Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with the final grade of Very Good, in the same University. She received the PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution in March of 2006, in the field of Structural Mechanics, under the scientific supervision of Profs R.P. Leal and J.A.C. Ambrósio. The research study received the prize awarded of the best PhD Thesis on Computational Mechanics 2006 given by the Portuguese Association of Theoretical, Applied and Computational Mechanics (APMTAC). Later in 2013, she made part of student team that won the regional competition and got in second in the national competition Poliempreende.

After received the PhD, M. Augusta Neto becomes an integrated member of the research unit Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes (CEMMPRE) and received a Postdoctoral fellowship to perform research at the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department of the Utah State University. the Postdoctoral (SFRH/BPD/32272/2006) Research fellow was supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under competitive research grants. The topic addressed in that research work lead to the development of a software able to perform analysis and optimization of heterogeneous materials using the variational asymptotic method for unit cell homogenization and was developed under the scientific supervision of Prof. Wenbin Yu., https://engineering.purdue.edu/AAE/people/ptProfile?resource_id=93761, actually he is Professor on the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Purdue University.

She was the Principal Investigator of a national project in Co-Promotion with the industry, T.P.C. - ANCA – Implant for trochanteric fractures, especially for reverse obliquity fractures, supported by QREN-I&D in Co-promotion under the supervision of National Innovation Agency, which started in Jun of 2013 and ended in 2015. Between 2011 and 2013, she also participated as investigator of the national research project, PTDC/SAL-BEB/108658/2008 – Clinical and Biomechanical Evaluation of Dental Implants Subject to Platform Switching, supported by the national Foundation for Science and Technology. Additionally to the research activity, she performed works of consultancy and/or provision of specialized services: 1) in 2006/2007, she was member of the multifunctional technological development team of the, SODECIA-Technologic Center; 2) in 2008/2009, she was member of the multifunctional technological development team integrated in the Project FLOW (Future Lives in Ocean Waves), MARTIFER ENERGY; 3) in 2010/2011, she was member of the consultancy team for the LIFT STANDARDS (Elevadores Padrão); 4) in 2012 she was member of the consultancy team for the XRW company.

Even though she performed research activity, she wrote and published some considerable work and in 2015 published on international book with the title Engineering Computation of Structures: the Finite Element Method, https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-319-17710-6#about, that has more than 19k downloads. Published also more than 40 papers on International Journal with Scientific Referees, seven International chapter books, 2 papers in International Journal without referees, 5 papers in National Journals with referees, 63 papers on proceedings of international conferences, 24 paper on proceedings of national conferences.

Since March of 2006, Augusta Neto is Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, FCTUC and has been teaching several classes: Solid Mechanics; Automatic Computation of Structures; Structural Mechanics; Strength of Materials. Beside classes, she was involved on the supervision of several Mechanical Engineering MSc students on topics related to numerical computation and biomechanical behaviour of orthopaedic and orthodontic devices as well as on topics of material and structural behaviour of composite structures.
