Biography
Miguel Padeiro (MP) is a geographer, Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography and Tourism at the UC. He is a member of the Centre of Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning (CEGOT). His research focuses on the geography of ageing, urban planning, mobility, and older adults’ well-being, and the role of local governments. Currently he coordinates an FCT-funded project (Grampcity - Moving Smartly Towards Accessible and Inclusive Urban Environments for our Elders, 237,000 euros) that focuses on daily mobility and the well-being of older people living in urban areas, with an emphasis on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last few years he has participated in international and national projects and initiatives in the fields of health geography, urban health, and ageing: URBHEALTH (Urbanisation and Health Summer Course and MOOC available on Coursera.org); URB_HealthS (Multidisciplinary expert panels improving URBan HEALTH trainingS for technicians and trainers); European Campus of City-Universities (EC2U); EIT Health Aging PhD School, EU-SHAFE (Europe enabling Smart Healthy Age-Friendly Environments, Interreg-Europe FEDER). MP has also worked in applied research projects: Health Atlas of the Portuguese Healthy Municipalities Network (2020-2023), Centre Region Territorial Development Strategy (2021-2023) and the Municipal Health Strategy of Coimbra 2021-2025. In the last 5 years MP has authored 9 papers in scientific journals (mostly ISI/SCOPUS), and 5 book chapters, presented 27 conference papers, and participated in several invited conferences.
