Biography
António Manuel Rochette Cordeiro is Doctor of Geography and Professor of the Department of Geography and Tourism of Coimbra University - 1st Cycle of Studies, Master and PhD programmes of Geography and Land-use and Environment Studies - and of the Integrated Master of the Architecture Department (FCTUC). He has also delivered several talks under the PhD Programmes in Contemporary Studies (CEIS20) and Education Sciences (FPCEUC). Scientific Coordinator of the Centre for 20th Century Interdisciplinary Studies (CEIS20-IIIUC), where he is a member of the research group on “Educational Policies and Organisations and Educational Dynamics”, and he is also the coordinator of the Research Unit “Territories and Education” and Director of the Master's Programme “Physical geography, Environment and Land use”. He is also the Director of the journal “Estudos do Século XX”. Within the framework of a variety of paths followed in research, namely Geomorphology, Sustainability and Urban Space, GIS, Public Policies - Education and Land use, Planning of Collective Equipment and Sustainable Development - he has published around two hundred books, chapters in books, papers, technical notes and reports, in an interdisciplinary context that is worth noting. Concerning Knowledge Transfer Projects, and following dozens of "Municipal Education Charters" and “Strategic Education Plans” since 2004, he coordinated under protocols signed between Coimbra University and the Regional Government of Azores of the “Reorganization of the School Network” and the “Charter of Artificial Sports Equipments” of the Autonomous Region of Azores. Under the framework of the protocols signed between the University of Coimbra and the Ministry of Education of Portugal, he developed the projects “Reorganising Schools by NUT III in 2013” and “Reorganising the Network of Private and Cooperative Schools having Association Contracts with the Government”, the latter developed in 2011, integrating as the Portuguese case study the “Eurydice Report - Support Mechanisms for Evidence-based Policy-Making in Education (2017). He is currently coordinating a vast team in charge of developing strategic development plans and strategic education plans for several local governments (6), and a team conducting the project on “The territorialisation of education”, which forms the basis of the implementation of Local Education Projects and the implementation of the reorganisation of the school network – 2nd Generation Municipal Education Letters.
