Biography
Maria João Silveirinha, aka Maria Silveirinha, is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra and Researcher at ICNova working in the field of communication and media studies. She holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa in Lisbon. She is also the current vice-president of the Portuguese Association of Studies on Women (APEM), as well as chief editor of ex aequo journal. Her research areas focus on feminist media studies; democracy and the media; journalism practices and culture; political communication; European policies and the media. Among her published work are her books Media, Identities and Politics, Women and the Media, and articles in Feminist Media Studies, Journalism Practice and Journalism Studies and other national peer-reviewed journals. She was PI on financed projets on Media and Gender, and European Identity and Media.
